Living Like a Maharaja

The hotel we stayed at while we were in Ranthambhore has to be seen to be believed.  It was built sixteen years ago, but in the style of a hunting lodge that the maharajas would have stayed in more than 100 years ago.  Evidently, the man who built the place is a descendent of a maharaja and went to great lengths to create as authentic a look as possible.  We were stunned to be staying in such fancy digs and it was a lot of fun to spend a couple of days living like a member or the royal family.

We were greeted by these two performers.  They seemed to always be around in the courtyard.  The dancer must have a major neck problems from doing this all day!

Beautiful by day

Just as beautiful by night

We had a welcome dinner in an outside courtyard, complete with bonfires to keep us warm.  It was so beautiful!

Indian barbecue was served for our welcome dinner

Beautiful fountain near our table

All of our other meals were eaten in this dining hall.  No, I'm not kidding.  It was even more stunning in person

My and Mom's room.  It was huge!

Our sitting area

And in keeping with the authentic look of the place, you get a funky and very cumbersome lock for your door.  The same mechanism is on both the inside and outside of the door.  You just move the padlock from inside to outside when you leave.

I know, I know.  It's a rough life we've got going on over here in India.  We're doing our very best to get through it.  Thank goodness we're tough.  Don't worry.  We'll find a way to muddle through.😉
